Lanluma X: This variant is specifically formulated for adding volume to larger areas, such as buttocks or hips, providing a more obvious contour and enhancement. Lanluma V: Designed for areas requiring finer detail, such as the correction of skin depressions and improvement in skin texture, Lanluma X is perfect for more delicate areas like the arms or décolletage.

#LetsTalkCollagen

At the heart of Lanluma’s innovative approach is the use of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that has been used in medical applications for many years. PLLA works by stimulating the body’s collagen production, a structural protein that helps to maintain skin elasticity and firmness.

As PLLA micro-particles are absorbed, they trigger the body to rebuild collagen in the treated areas, leading to gradual and natural-looking enhancements. If you need more information on the difference’s between PPLA products check out our latest article on Lanluma vs Sculptra.

Is Lanluma a BBL treatment?

Lanluma is a non-surgical alternative to a BBL treatment, which can achieve similar results without the surgery and downtime.

Lanluma is an injectable PLLA filler that stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. This can help to:

  • Reshape and enhance the curves of the buttocks and hips
  • Correct hip dips
  • Treat cellulite
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
  • Add volume to the areas of injection
What areas can be treated with Lanluma?

Lanluma is indicated for enhancing the buttocks, hips, thighs, arms, and can improve the appearance of cellulite.

How long does it take to see results from Lanluma?

Initial improvements can be observed within a few weeks, with full results becoming apparent after 2-3 months as collagen production peaks.

Is there any downtime associated with Lanluma treatments?

Side effects are generally mild and include temporary swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site.

How much does a Lanluma treatment cost?

The cost starts at approximately £500 per session and varies depending on the treatment area and number of sessions.

Lanluma Aftercare at Skin Medical

Following Lanluma treatment at Skin Medical, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness in the treated area, particularly in the first few days after treatment. Swelling can be moderate to more noticeable and commonly starts to settle within 7 to 10 days. Some patients may also feel temporary firmness or small lumps under the skin as the product settles, which is an expected part of early recovery. Lanluma works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production, so while some improvement may be visible sooner, the full result usually develops gradually over 4 to 8 weeks, with further improvement continuing as collagen remodelling progresses.

Lanluma Aftercare Summary

Lanluma is a collagen-stimulating injectable treatment made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), designed to improve contour, restore volume and enhance skin texture in areas such as the buttocks, hips, thighs, arms, face and neck. Because Lanluma stimulates collagen rather than simply adding instant filler volume alone, the result develops in a more gradual and natural-looking way. Skin Medical describes it as a non-surgical option for body contouring and skin quality improvement, with results that can last up to 2 years depending on the treatment area and the individual.

Lanluma Pre-Treatment Guidance

To prepare for your Lanluma appointment at Skin Medical, it is sensible to:

  • Attend with clean skin in the area being treated
  • Avoid alcohol before treatment if advised, as this may increase the risk of bruising
  • Let your practitioner know about any medical conditions, medications, skin concerns or previous injectable treatments
  • Follow any personalised pre-treatment guidance given during your consultation
  • Plan your diary around the possibility of swelling and bruising in the early recovery period

During your appointment:

  • Clinical photographs and consent may be completed before treatment
  • The treatment area will be assessed, marked and cleansed
  • Local anaesthetic may be used for comfort
  • Treatment time is typically around 30 to 60 minutes
  • Most patients can return to normal daily activity afterwards, although you should expect some downtime from swelling and tenderness in the treated area

What to Expect Immediately After Lanluma

Lanluma is not usually considered a high-downtime treatment, but it is normal for the area to feel quite swollen or tender straight afterwards. Immediately after treatment, you may notice:

  • Moderate swelling at the injection sites
  • Redness and bruising
  • Tenderness or sensitivity
  • Temporary firmness, pinching sensations, or small lumps beneath the skin
  • A fuller appearance initially due to treatment-related swelling

These early effects are expected and should improve as the product settles and the tissues recover. Skin Medical advises that these reactions are normal and usually temporary, but you should seek advice if anything feels unusually severe or prolonged.

Lanluma Post-Treatment Care

To support healing and help achieve the best outcome from your Lanluma treatment, follow these aftercare instructions carefully:

  • Massage the treated area for 10 minutes twice a day for 3 weeks using the pinch-motion technique advised by your practitioner
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area for the first 24 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs and heat exposure for 24 hours
  • Avoid extreme temperatures, UV exposure, sunbeds, swimming pools, hot baths and cold plunges until swelling and redness have settled
  • Avoid laser treatments, chemical peels, resurfacing treatments and other intensive skin procedures in the area until fully healed; Skin Medical specifically advises avoiding these for at least 2 weeks
  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen on exposed treated areas
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
  • Do not apply make-up for 24 hours; when you restart, use clean brushes or new sponges
  • A cold compress may help reduce swelling, provided it is not placed directly onto the skin
  • If needed, paracetamol may be taken for discomfort
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, Nurofen or other anti-inflammatory medication for 24 hours unless medically advised otherwise, as this may worsen bruising
  • Stay well hydrated, as good hydration supports recovery and collagen stimulation
  • If Lanluma has been used for hand augmentation, avoid carrying heavy items and avoid rings or watches until swelling has resolved

What to Expect Over the Next Few Days

Over the days following Lanluma injections, swelling should gradually reduce and the treated area will begin to settle into a more natural appearance. Bruising and tenderness may still be present for several days, and firmness under the skin can persist briefly while the product distributes. This is one reason why following the massage protocol is so important after treatment.

Patients should also understand that the initial post-treatment fullness does not represent the final result. Lanluma is designed to stimulate collagen over time, so the most meaningful improvement appears progressively rather than instantly.

When Will I See Results from Lanluma?

Lanluma is a gradual collagen stimulator, so results build over time. Skin Medical states that some improvement may be seen immediately or within the first few weeks, while more significant improvement is typically visible after 4 to 8 weeks or around 2 to 3 months as collagen production increases. Most patients need 1 to 3 sessions depending on the area treated, their starting point and the outcome they want to achieve.

How Long Do Lanluma Results Last?

Lanluma is designed to provide long-lasting results, with Skin Medical stating that the effects can last for up to 2 years or well beyond 24 months depending on the individual, treatment area, lifestyle and maintenance plan. Because the treatment works by encouraging your own collagen production, results tend to evolve naturally and can be maintained with top-up sessions where recommended.

How to Protect and Maintain Your Results

To help prolong your Lanluma results at Skin Medical, it is best to:

  • Follow the massage instructions exactly as advised
  • Keep the treated area protected from excess heat and UV exposure during recovery
  • Maintain healthy hydration and stable weight where possible
  • Avoid unnecessary pressure or trauma to the treated area in the early healing phase
  • Attend any follow-up appointments recommended by your practitioner
  • Complete your planned course of treatment if more than one session is advised

This supports more even collagen stimulation and helps optimise the final contour, firmness and skin-quality result. The Skin Medical treatment page notes that 1 to 3 sessions are commonly recommended for best correction.

Who May Not Be Suitable for Lanluma?

Suitability for Lanluma should always be assessed during a full consultation. Treatment planning depends on the area being treated, your medical history, previous aesthetic treatment, body goals and skin quality. Skin Medical notes that Lanluma can be tailored for the face, neck and body, with treatment commonly used for the buttocks, hips, thighs, arms and cellulite concerns.

When to Contact Skin Medical

Lanluma is generally well tolerated when performed by an experienced medical practitioner, but you should contact Skin Medical promptly if you experience:

  • Swelling that is worsening rather than improving
  • Severe or persistent pain
  • Significant redness or heat that does not settle
  • Signs of infection
  • Lumps that become increasingly painful or do not improve
  • Any reaction that feels unusual or more severe than expected

Skin Medical advises patients to get in touch if symptoms feel more severe or prolonged than expected after treatment.
