Ameela Polynucleotides at Skin Medical

Polynucleotide treatments that help improve skin quality, hydration and elasticity, without adding volume.

What is Ameela?

Ameela is a range of injectable polynucleotide treatments, previously known as Nucleadyn. Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments, derived from salmon, that work with the skin’s own repair processes to support cell renewal, hydration and elasticity.

Unlike dermal fillers, Ameela does not add volume or change the shape of the face. Instead, it focuses on improving skin quality, which makes it well suited to delicate areas such as under the eyes, where fillers are not always the right choice.

The range includes three formulations, each designed for different areas and concerns, so your practitioner can tailor treatment to your skin.

Ameela may help improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and crepey skin under the eyes
  • Under-eye puffiness and dark, tired-looking eyes
  • Dull, dehydrated skin
  • Loss of skin elasticity and firmness
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Crepey skin on the neck and hands

How Ameela Polynucleotides Work

Ameela is made from highly purified polynucleotides, derived from salmon DNA. Purification removes proteins and other components, so the polynucleotides are well tolerated by the skin.

Once injected into the skin in tiny amounts, polynucleotides help support the activity of fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and elastin. They also help the skin hold on to moisture. Over the weeks after treatment, this can lead to skin that looks more hydrated, elastic and refreshed.

Because Ameela improves skin quality rather than adding volume, results look natural and develop gradually.

Who is Ameela suitable for?

Ameela may be suitable if you would like to improve the quality of your skin without changing your features. It is often chosen by patients who:

  • Have tired-looking eyes, fine lines or crepey skin under the eyes
  • Are not suitable for, or prefer not to have, under-eye filler
  • Have dull, dehydrated skin or early signs of ageing
  • Want to improve the look of the neck or hands
  • Would like a natural-looking, gradual improvement

Where the main concern is volume loss or skin laxity, your practitioner may recommend a different or combined approach.

Who should not have Ameela?

Ameela is not suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an allergy to fish or salmon
  • Have an active skin infection, cold sore or inflammation in the treatment area

Your consultation includes a full medical history check to make sure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

Ameela Aftercare at Skin Medical

After an Ameela treatment at Skin Medical, it is normal to see small bumps at the injection points, along with some redness, swelling or bruising. These usually settle within a few days. Most patients return to work and their normal routine straight away. Results develop gradually as the skin regenerates over the weeks that follow, and following the aftercare advice below helps protect your skin and support your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

All of the questions you need to ask about Ameela

Is Ameela a filler?

No. Ameela is not a dermal filler and does not add volume or change the shape of your face. It is a polynucleotide treatment that works with the skin’s own repair processes to improve hydration, elasticity and texture, so results look natural and develop gradually.

Which Ameela treatment is right for me?

It depends on the area and your concerns. Ameela Eyes is designed for the delicate under-eye area, Ameela Rejuvenation for overall skin quality on the face, neck and hands, and Ameela Face for the mid-face and jawline. Your practitioner will recommend the right option during your consultation.

Does Ameela hurt?

Ameela is given as a series of small injections, so you may feel some brief discomfort.

How many Ameela sessions will I need?

Most patients have a course of treatments spaced a few weeks apart, as results build with each session.

When will I see results?

Ameela works gradually as the skin regenerates. Many patients notice their skin looks more hydrated and refreshed within a few weeks, with further improvement over the course of treatment. Results vary from person to person.

Is there any downtime?

There is usually little downtime. Small bumps at the injection points usually settle within a day or so, and some patients have mild redness, swelling or bruising for a few days. Most people return to work and normal activities straight away.

How is Ameela different from Profhilo?

Both treatments improve skin quality rather than adding volume. Profhilo uses hyaluronic acid to hydrate and remodel the skin, while Ameela uses polynucleotides to support the skin’s natural repair processes. The two can work well together, and your practitioner will advise which suits you best.

Can Ameela be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Ameela can form part of a wider skin plan alongside treatments such as skin boosters, energy-based treatments or medical-grade skincare. Your practitioner will advise on the right combination and timing for you.
