Aqualyx Pre-Treatment Guidance

To prepare for your Aqualyx appointment at Skin Medical:

• Arrive with clean skin in the area being treated, free from creams, lotions or make-up
• Eat before your appointment to ensure comfort during treatment
• Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen where possible in the days before treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment to minimise the risk of bruising and swelling
• Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your visit
• Wear or bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the areas being treated
• Inform Dr Karim of any medications, medical conditions or previous treatments in the area at your consultation
• A consultation is compulsory before all Aqualyx treatments at Skin Medical

During your appointment:

• Clinical photographs and consent will be completed before treatment begins
• The treatment area will be assessed, marked and cleansed
• Local anaesthetic will be used to ensure comfort throughout the procedure
• Treatment time is typically 30 to 60 minutes depending on the areas being treated

What to Expect Immediately After Aqualyx

Aqualyx triggers an inflammatory response as part of the fat dissolution process, so more noticeable post-treatment effects are to be expected compared with some other injectable treatments.

You may experience:

• Swelling and puffiness in the treated area, which may be more pronounced in the first 48 to 72 hours
• Redness and warmth at the injection sites
• Bruising around the treated area, which typically fades within one to two weeks
• Tenderness and sensitivity to touch for several days following treatment
• A firm or lumpy texture beneath the skin as the tissue responds to the treatment, which resolves naturally over time

These effects are a normal and expected part of the Aqualyx process. They reflect the body’s response to the fat dissolution and the beginning of the lymphatic elimination process. Please contact us if anything feels unusually severe or prolonged.

Aqualyx Post-Treatment Care

To support your recovery and help the body eliminate the dissolved fat as effectively as possible, we recommend the following after your treatment.

• Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water in the days following treatment, as good hydration supports the lymphatic drainage and fat elimination process
• Engage in light movement such as gentle walking to encourage circulation and lymphatic flow
• Avoid strenuous exercise and intense physical activity for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment
• Avoid extreme heat such as saunas, hot tubs and sunbeds until swelling and redness have fully settled
• Avoid touching, rubbing or applying pressure to the treated area for the first 24 hours
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment to reduce bruising and swelling
• Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen for 24 hours, as these may interfere with the body’s natural inflammatory response that supports the treatment process
• Apply a cold compress gently to the area if needed to help reduce swelling, but do not place it directly onto the skin
• Wear loose, comfortable clothing over the treated area where possible during the recovery period
• Maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise to support and sustain your long-term results

When Will I See Results from Aqualyx?

Aqualyx works by triggering the body’s natural fat elimination process, so results develop gradually over the weeks following treatment.

• Initial swelling will begin to subside over the first one to two weeks, and the treated area will start to feel softer as the tissue settles
• Results begin to become visible at around six weeks post-treatment as the lymphatic system continues to process and eliminate the dissolved fat cells
• Full results are typically visible at twelve weeks
• Results are long-lasting, as the treated fat cells are permanently dissolved and eliminated. Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle will help preserve your outcome over time

Most patients achieve their desired result in one session per area, though some may benefit from a follow-up treatment depending on the volume of fat and the area being treated.

Who May Not Be Suitable for Aqualyx?

Suitability for Aqualyx should always be assessed during a full consultation. The treatment is designed for localised, pinchable fat deposits and is not a weight loss solution. It may not be appropriate if you have active infections or compromised skin in the treatment area, certain liver or kidney conditions, a history of lipid disorders, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

When to Contact Skin Medical

Aqualyx is a safe and well-established fat-dissolving treatment when performed by an experienced medical professional. However, please contact Skin Medical promptly if you experience:

• Swelling that is worsening rather than gradually improving
• Severe or persistent pain beyond the first few days
• Signs of infection such as increasing redness, heat or discharge
• Hardening or lumps in the treated area that are not resolving over time
• Any unexpected or unusual changes following treatment
