Jawline Slimming Pre-Treatment Guidance

To prepare for your jawline slimming appointment at Skin Medical:

• Arrive with clean skin, free from make-up or skincare products in the treatment area
• Eat before your appointment as normal. You will be able to eat and drink after treatment, though we advise avoiding very hard or chewy foods on the day
• Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen where possible in the days before treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment to minimise the risk of bruising
• Inform Dr Karim of any medications, medical conditions, dental treatments or previous injectable treatments at your consultation

During your appointment:

• Clinical photographs and consent will be completed before treatment begins
• The treatment area will be cleansed
• Local anaesthetic may be used for comfort
• Treatment time is typically 30 to 60 minutes

What to Expect Immediately After Jawline Slimming

Jawline slimming is a well-tolerated procedure with minimal downtime for most patients.

You may experience:

• Mild swelling or puffiness around the jaw and lower face
• Light bruising at the injection sites, which is temporary and can be covered with make-up if needed
• Tenderness or a feeling of heaviness in the jaw area for the first few days
• Temporary difficulty with very firm or chewy foods as the muscles adjust

These effects are entirely normal and should settle within a few days. Please contact us if you experience anything more severe or prolonged.

Jawline Slimming Post-Treatment Care

To allow the treatment to settle correctly and support the best possible result, please follow these aftercare instructions in the 24 hours following your appointment.

• Do not rub, massage or apply pressure to the treated area for 24 hours after treatment
• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours following your appointment
• Avoid exposure to heat such as saunas, hot tubs and tanning beds for 24 hours post-treatment
• Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen and Nurofen for 24 hours, as these may increase the risk of bruising
• Avoid lying flat or sleeping face-down for the first four hours after treatment
• Avoid dental procedures for at least two weeks following treatment
• Stick to soft foods on the day of treatment and avoid very hard, tough or chewy foods such as chewing gum, tough meat or hard bread for the first few days
• Continue your usual skincare routine, but avoid applying pressure or massaging the jaw area
• Make-up can be applied gently from the following day if needed

When Will I See Results from Jawline Slimming?

Jawline slimming works gradually as the masseter muscle responds to the botulinum toxin over the weeks following treatment.

• Initial softening may be noticeable within the first two to four weeks as the muscles begin to relax
• The full slimming effect becomes increasingly apparent over six to eight weeks as the masseter muscle gradually reduces in volume
• A follow-up appointment is recommended at two weeks to assess your results and make any minor adjustments if needed
• Results typically last between six and eighteen months depending on individual factors such as muscle size, jaw habits and metabolism
• With regular maintenance treatments, many patients find the slimming effect becomes more pronounced and longer-lasting over time

Who May Not Be Suitable for Jawline Slimming?

Suitability for jawline slimming should always be assessed during a full consultation with Dr Karim. Treatment may not be appropriate if you have certain neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis, a known allergy to botulinum toxin or any components of the product, active skin infections in the treatment area, significant dental or jaw concerns that have not been assessed, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

• Significant or worsening swelling beyond 48 hours
• Difficulty chewing, swallowing or any unexpected changes in jaw function
• Signs of infection such as increasing redness, heat or discharge at the injection sites
• Any unusual asymmetry or unexpected changes in facial appearance following treatment
