What are Skin Boosters?

Skin Boosters are injectable treatments containing hyaluronic acid or other ingredients that stimulate collagen, and combat elastin. These biostimulator’s help to improve and act as internal moisturisers, hydrating the skin and improving its quality, elasticity, firmness, and radiance by stimulating collagen production.

They help to smooth wrinkles, fade scars, and promote long-term skin rejuvenation lasting up to nine months. So if you are concerned about sallow skin, thin lips, dull skin or dark circles that can be treated by tear through filler – skin boosters may be the right treatment for you.

There are various types of Skin Booster that can achieve slightly different results and duration times. During your consultation we decide the best treatment and product based on your goals.

Polynucleotides such as Polyphil and Ameela, are small fragments of salmon or trout sperm DNA, which when they are injected into the skin, stimulate the formation of collagen elastin and hyaluronic acid.

Skin Medical is the best clinic I’ve ever been to. The entire team are amazing! So friendly and professional. They explain everything clearly, talk you through what’s needed, and really take the time to listen to you. I’ve been going for hair treatments, and even though I’m still early in the process, I already feel really positive about it. There’s definitely a sign of progress, which is reassuring, and their care and knowledge give me full confidence that I’m in the right place.

Loved my HydraFacial with Malini & Polynucleotide treatment with Dr Sabika. Got this combo at skin medical and wow – instant glow from the facial, plus long-term plumping from the polynucleotides.

My skin looks fresher after just one session! Quick, comfortable, and zero downtime. The staff was wonderful too. Would highly recommend this clinic

What is the difference between Skin Boosters and Dermal Fillers?

While both are maybe made of hyaluronic acid, Dermal Fillers restore lost volume, contour, and lift features, injected at a deeper level with a thicker consistency. In contrast, Skin Boosters are more superficial and aimed at hydrating and improving overall skin quality rather than adding volume.

For those looking for a balance between skin boosters and dermal fillers, Profhilo is an award winning treatment at delivering lasting results, not just for the face but for the backs of the hands, and inside the arms (bingo wings). Profhilo is also adaptable, and can be combined with other treatments to treat difficult areas like under the eyes, where polynucleotides are also a good option. Profhilo and Polynucleotides are an effective treatment with comparably less down time then laser or CO2 laser options.

Skin Boosters Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Contact our team who will be happy to answer any queries or concerns.

How much do Skin Boosters cost?

Skin Booster prices vary based on the treatment type and products used. Our Skin boosters are available from £250.

What are skin boosters?

Skin boosters are injectable treatments designed to deeply hydrate and improve skin quality. Unlike traditional fillers, they don’t add volume but instead focus on improving texture, radiance, and elasticity.

How do skin boosters differ from dermal fillers?

Skin boosters are soft, hydrating injectables that spread evenly under the skin to restore moisture and stimulate collagen. Dermal fillers are firmer and used to add shape, volume, or contour to specific areas.

When will I see results from skin boosters?

Most patients notice a fresher, more hydrated look within 2–4 weeks, with further improvements as collagen production increases over time.

Are skin boosters suitable for all ages?

They are often chosen by patients in their late 20s onwards, when natural hyaluronic acid levels start to decline. They can be effective for both younger patients looking to prevent early signs of ageing and older patients wanting to restore glow and elasticity.

Can skin boosters be combined with other treatments?

Yes, they are often combined with dermal fillers, collagen stimulators, or energy-based treatments to enhance overall results. Your clinician will design a tailored plan for you.

How many sessions of skin boosters will I need?

A course of 2–3 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart, is usually recommended for best results, followed by maintenance sessions once or twice a year.

How long does the treatment take to work?

Skin Boosters are typically administered in 2 or 3 sessions, with full results visible after about four weeks. For maintenance, treatments can be repeated every 3-6 months.

Is there any downtime with Skin Boosters?

The downtime with Skin Boosters is minimal. Post-treatment, small bumps at the injection points usually subside within a few hours, and light makeup can be applied if necessary.

What is Profhilo and how is it different from other skin boosters?

Profhilo is an award-winning injectable skin booster made of pure, stabilised hyaluronic acid. Unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo does not add volume- it spreads evenly under the skin to deeply hydrate, remodel collagen and elastin, and improve overall skin quality. Many patients choose Profhilo treatment to address fine lines, crepey skin and loss of firmness. Profhilo is also known for natural-looking results rather than an “overdone” look.

What are Polynucleotides and how do they work?

Polynucleotides are regenerative injectables made from purified DNA fragments. They work at a cellular level to stimulate fibroblasts, improve elasticity, repair damaged tissue and reduce inflammation. Polynucleotides are increasingly popular as an alternative or complement to hyaluronic acid skin boosters, offering results such as brighter tone, reduced pigmentation and improved under-eye quality.

How do Exosome skin treatments support results?

Exosomes are microscopic messengers derived from stem cells that carry growth factors, peptides and amino acids to skin cells. When delivered after injectables, microneedling or laser, exosome therapy enhances repair, reduces downtime and promotes collagen and elastin production. Exosome skin booster treatments are often chosen for improved healing and longer-lasting results compared to traditional boosters alone.

Who is a good candidate for skin booster injections?

Anyone noticing tired, dry or ageing skin can benefit. Profhilo is ideal for patients seeking a natural glow and skin tightening without fillers. Polynucleotides are great for those with fragile, sensitive or inflamed skin. Exosomes are especially useful for patients combining boosters with treatments like lasers or microneedling for enhanced results.

What skin concerns can these boosters treat?

Profhilo, Polynucleotides and Exosomes all target common concerns such as dullness, dehydration, fine lines, skin laxity, and loss of elasticity. Patients often request skin booster injections for the face, neck, décolletage and hands. Exosomes are also effective for post-treatment healing and redness reduction.

Is Profhilo safe and what about ‘Profhilo gone wrong’?

Profhilo is considered very safe when performed by experienced medical professionals. Side effects are usually limited to temporary redness or small bumps at the injection points. Stories of “Profhilo gone wrong” are rare and usually linked to unqualified injectors or poor technique. Choosing a doctor-led clinic like Skin Medical ensures treatment is performed with the highest safety standards.

How Often Should You Do Skin Boosters?

Optimal results from Skin Boosters are typically achieved after 2-3 treatments, spaced 2-3 weeks apart.

Do Skin Boosters Actually Work?

Yes, Skin Boosters significantly improve hydration and collagen levels, enhancing skin texture and tone. Many people notice a visible improvement, with smoother, more even skin, and for some, reduced blemishes.

How Long Do Skin Booster Injections Last?

The longevity of Skin Booster treatments varies depending on the brand, skin quality, and maintenance, typically lasting six to twelve months.
