Radiesse Pre-Treatment Guidance

To prepare for your Radiesse appointment at Skin Medical:

• Arrive with clean skin, free from make-up or skincare products in the treatment area
• Eat before your appointment to ensure comfort during treatment
• Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen where possible in the days before treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment to minimise the risk of bruising and swelling
• Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your visit
• Inform Dr Karim of any previous facial or injectable treatments, medical conditions or medications at your consultation
• A consultation is compulsory before all Radiesse treatments at Skin Medical

During your appointment:

• Clinical photographs and consent will be completed before treatment begins
• The treatment area will be assessed, marked and cleansed
• Local anaesthetic will be used to ensure comfort throughout the procedure
• Treatment time is typically 60 minutes

What to Expect Immediately After Radiesse

Radiesse is a well-tolerated injectable procedure and results are visible immediately following treatment.

You may experience:

• Swelling and puffiness around the treated area, which may be more noticeable in the first 24 to 48 hours
• Light bruising at the injection sites
• Tenderness or sensitivity to touch for the first few days
• Slight unevenness or asymmetry as swelling settles

These effects are entirely normal and should resolve within a few days. The final result will become clearer over the first one to two weeks once any swelling has fully subsided. It is important not to assess your final result until the area has fully settled.

Radiesse Post-Treatment Care

To support your recovery and protect your results, we recommend the following after your treatment.

• Avoid touching, pressing or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours to allow the product to settle correctly
• Apply a cold compress gently if needed to help reduce swelling, but do not place it directly onto the skin
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment to reduce bruising and swelling
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and hot baths for 24 to 48 hours
• Avoid extreme heat and prolonged sun exposure on the treated area for at least two weeks
• Avoid dental procedures for two weeks following treatment
• Avoid facials, facial massage and other skin treatments in the treated area for at least two weeks
• Do not apply make-up for 12 hours following treatment; when you restart, use clean brushes or new sponges to minimise any risk of infection
• Paracetamol may be taken if needed for discomfort. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medications for 24 hours as these may worsen bruising
• We recommend taking the afternoon off following your treatment to allow the area to begin settling comfortably

When Will I See Results from Radiesse?

Radiesse delivers both immediate and progressive results.

• An immediate improvement in volume, contour and the appearance of lines is visible straight after treatment
• Swelling in the first 24 to 48 hours may temporarily alter the appearance, with the refined final result becoming fully clear within one to two weeks
• Collagen stimulation continues over the following months, delivering sustained improvement in skin quality, firmness and texture as new connective tissue forms
• Results typically last between six and twelve months
• A top-up treatment at six months is available to maintain and build on your results if desired

Dr Karim will advise on the most appropriate timing for any follow-up treatment based on how you respond and your individual goals.

Who May Not Be Suitable for Radiesse?

Suitability for Radiesse should always be assessed during a full consultation. Treatment may not be appropriate if you have active skin infections, open wounds or compromised skin in the treatment area, a known allergy to any components of the product, a history of abnormal scarring, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Because Radiesse is not a hyaluronic acid filler it cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which is an important consideration to discuss with Dr Karim at your consultation.

When to Contact Skin Medical

Radiesse is a safe and well-established treatment when performed by an experienced medical professional. However, please contact Skin Medical promptly if you experience:

• Significant or worsening swelling beyond 48 hours
• Blanching or unusual discolouration of the skin around the treated area
• Signs of infection such as increasing redness, heat or discharge
• Severe or persistent pain following treatment
• Any unexpected or unusual changes in the treated area
