Julaine before and after: Real patient results and what to expect

Written by Dr Sabika Karim. Checked by Skin Medical.

One of the things patients ask me most often before starting Julaine is what kind of results they can realistically expect to see.

It’s a great question because Julaine is quite different from many other aesthetic treatments. Rather than creating an instant change, it works gradually by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production, helping the skin become firmer, healthier and better supported over time.

This is one of the reasons I love the treatment so much. The results tend to develop subtly and naturally, leaving patients looking fresher and more rejuvenated without looking obviously treated.

How does Julaine work?

One of the most important things to understand about Julaine is that it is not designed to behave like a traditional filler.

Julaine is a collagen biostimulator (like Sculptra) containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), an ingredient that has been used in regenerative aesthetic medicine for many years. Rather than creating significant immediate volume, it works by encouraging the body’s natural collagen production process.

Following treatment, the PLLA particles stimulate fibroblasts beneath the skin. These are the cells responsible for producing collagen, which plays a crucial role in maintaining firmness, elasticity and structural support.

As new collagen develops, the skin gradually becomes:

  • firmer
  • smoother
  • more resilient
  • better supported
  • more youthful in appearance

This process takes time, which is why Julaine results are often described as progressive rather than instant.

Patients who are expecting dramatic before-and-after photos immediately after treatment can sometimes be surprised. In the early days, any visible change is often related to hydration and mild swelling rather than the collagen stimulation itself.

The real improvements begin to emerge over the following weeks and months as collagen production increases.

This gradual approach is one of the reasons many patients choose Julaine. Rather than looking suddenly different, they tend to look naturally refreshed as the treatment takes effect.

Julaine before and after: The typical timeline

Every patient responds slightly differently, but most Julaine journeys follow a similar pattern:

Week 1:

Immediately after treatment, patients may notice some fullness in the treated area. However, this is largely due to the treatment process itself and should not be viewed as the final result.

Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur, although downtime is generally minimal.

At this stage, collagen production has not yet begun in any significant way.

Week 4:

Around four weeks after treatment, the earliest signs of collagen stimulation may begin to appear.

Patients often describe their skin as:

  • feeling firmer
  • appearing healthier
  • looking slightly more refreshed

Changes are usually subtle at this point, which is why many treatment protocols involve additional sessions spaced several weeks apart.

After three months:

This is often the stage where patients begin to appreciate the true benefits of Julaine.

By three months, collagen production is well underway and improvements may include:

  • enhanced skin firmness
  • smoother texture
  • improved facial support
  • better skin quality
  • a more youthful appearance

For many patients, this is when before-and-after photographs begin to show meaningful differences.

After six months:

At six months, results are often approaching their peak.

Patients frequently notice:

  • stronger facial structure
  • improved skin elasticity
  • greater firmness
  • ongoing collagen support

The overall effect tends to remain natural and harmonious rather than obvious or overdone.

After twelve months:

One of the biggest advantages of Julaine is its longevity.

Many patients continue to enjoy visible improvements at the twelve-month mark, with collagen support helping maintain skin quality and structural integrity.

This is why Julaine has become increasingly popular among patients looking for long-term rejuvenation rather than a short-term fix.

Real patient Julaine before and after photos at Skin Medical

One of the best ways to understand what Julaine can achieve is by looking at real patient results. Because Julaine stimulates collagen gradually, before and after images often show subtle but meaningful improvements in skin quality, firmness and facial support rather than dramatic overnight transformation. At Skin Medical, all before and after photographs are taken using consistent lighting, angles and camera settings. Images are never digitally enhanced or altered.

Individual results will always vary depending on factors such as age, skin quality, collagen levels, lifestyle and treatment protocol. Here are some examples of previous client results:

Healthier skin quality, improved elasticity and a more refreshed overall appearance.

These images highlight one of the key advantages of Julaine; that the goal is not to change how someone looks, but to help them look like a fresher, more rested version of themselves.

How many sessions do you need to see Julaine results?

One of the most common misconceptions about collagen stimulators is that a single treatment session will produce the full result.

In reality, most patients require a course of treatment to achieve optimal collagen stimulation.

A typical Julaine protocol involves:

  • 2 to 3 treatment sessions
  • Sessions spaced approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart
  • Ongoing review appointments where appropriate

Each session builds on the previous one, encouraging progressive collagen production beneath the skin.

This gradual approach is one of the reasons results tend to look so natural. Rather than creating a sudden change, the skin improves steadily over time. Following treatment, patients should also follow the recommendations outlined in our Julaine aftercare guide to support optimal healing and collagen stimulation.

What affects your Julaine results?

No two patients age in exactly the same way, which means no two patients respond identically to treatment. Several factors can influence the final outcome.

Age and collagen levelsSkin qualityLifestyle factorsTreatment protocolPractitioner expertise

Younger patients often have higher baseline collagen levels, while older patients may require more extensive stimulation to achieve similar improvements.

Patients with good skin health and elasticity often respond particularly well to regenerative treatments.

Smoking, excessive sun exposure, poor sleep and high stress levels can all affect collagen production and skin ageing.

Patients who complete their recommended course of treatment generally achieve more consistent results than those who stop after a single session.

Assessment, product placement and treatment planning all play an important role in achieving optimal outcomes.

At Skin Medical, every Julaine treatment begins with a detailed doctor-led consultation to ensure the treatment plan is tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

How much does Julaine vs Profhilo cost in the UK?

Because the costs of Julaine and Profhilo treatments work differently and involve different treatment protocols, pricing can vary, but generally speaking:

  • Profhilo often involves a lower upfront investment
  • Julaine may require a higher initial investment but is designed to deliver longer-lasting collagen support

The most appropriate option should always be determined by clinical suitability rather than price alone. At Skin Medical, treatment recommendations are based on what is most likely to deliver the best outcome for your skin concerns.

FAQs: Julaine vs Profhilo

Is Julaine better than Profhilo?

Neither treatment is universally better. Julaine is designed for collagen stimulation and structural support, while Profhilo focuses on hydration and skin quality.

How long do results last?

Profhilo typically requires maintenance every few months, while Julaine is designed to provide longer-term collagen stimulation. Longevity varies between individuals.

Which treatment has less downtime?

Both treatments involve minimal downtime. Most patients experience mild swelling, tenderness or bruising that settles quickly.

Can I have both Julaine and Profhilo?

Yes. Many patients combine the two treatments as part of a personalised rejuvenation plan because they address different aspects of ageing.
