Aftercare for V Beam Laser

Welcome to your aftercare page

Thank you for choosing Skin Medical for your V-Beam Laser treatment. To ensure the best results and a smooth recovery, please follow the aftercare instructions below carefully. This will help minimise side effects and support optimal healing.

What to expect after your V Beam treatment:

  • Immediate Redness: Expect mild redness in the treated area immediately following the procedure, which may resemble a mild sunburn. This typically resolves within 2–4 hours.
  • Purpura (Bruising): Small, red or purple spots may appear on the skin and are a normal part of the healing process. These will gradually fade over the next 7–10 days.
  • Swelling: Light swelling may occur around the treated area but should subside within a few days.
  • Pigmentation Changes: The treated pigmentation (such as sunspots or melasma) may darken initially and may flake off after a few days. This is a normal reaction and indicates the treatment is working.

Aftercare Instructions:

Avoid Sun Exposure: Do not expose the treated area to direct sunlight for 2 weeks following treatment. Always use a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen if you must be outside, and reapply regularly.
Avoid Heat: For the first 48 hours, avoid exposure to heat, including saunas, hot tubs, or strenuous exercise. Heat can aggravate the treated skin and increase the risk of side effects.
Avoid Scrubbing or Exfoliating: Do not exfoliate or scrub the treated area for 1–2 weeks to prevent irritation.
Do Not Pick or Scratch: Avoid picking at any crusting, scabs, or flaking skin, as this can cause scarring. Let the skin naturally shed as it heals.
Avoid Makeup: Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24–48 hours to allow the skin to heal properly. If you must wear makeup, make sure it is applied with clean applicators and avoid applying on any scabs or healing areas.
Gentle Cleansing: Cleanse your skin with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser for the first 48 hours. Avoid using hot water or harsh skin products. Gently pat the treated area dry with a soft towel.
Moisturise Regularly: Apply a gentle, soothing moisturiser to the treated area after cleansing to keep your skin hydrated and help with healing.
No Retinol or Active Skincare: Avoid using active skincare ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acid, vitamin C, or benzoyl peroxide for at least 1 week post-treatment to avoid irritation.
No Excessive Sweating or Strenuous Exercise: Avoid heavy exercise or sweating for 48 hours after your V-Beam laser treatment, as sweating can irritate the skin.
Cold Compress for Discomfort: If you experience any swelling or discomfort, you may apply a cold compress to the treated area for 10–15 minutes at a time to reduce inflammation.
If you experience discomfort, paracetamol may be taken. Avoid ibuprofen or aspirin unless advised otherwise.
Avoid scheduling facials, waxing, or laser treatments on the treated area for at least 2 weeks post-procedure.

What to expect over the next few days:

  • The treated area may appear darker or more pigmented for the first few days, but this should gradually fade as your skin heals.
  • You may experience some dryness or peeling, particularly in the treated pigmented areas. This is a normal part of the healing process and should resolve after 5–7 days.

When to Expect Results:
You may start to see results in as little as 1-2 weeks, but optimal results for vascular or pigmentation treatments may take 4–6 weeks as your body continues to heal and eliminate treated blood vessels or pigmentation. Some patients may need multiple treatments for the best outcome, please refer to your treatment plan.

Signs to Watch For:
Contact the clinic immediately if you notice:

  • Severe pain or discomfort that does not subside.
  • Unusual swelling that does not improve after 48 hours.

  • Changes in skin texture or scarring that appear abnormal.
