Aftercare for Polynucleotides

Welcome to your aftercare page

Thank you for choosing Skin Medical for your Polynucleotides treatment. We’re here to support your recovery and ensure the best results. Please review the aftercare guidelines below to help you achieve optimal outcomes from your treatment.

What to expect after your Polynucleotide treatment:

Swelling and Redness: Mild swelling and redness at the treated area are common immediately after the procedure. Swelling may increase in the first 24 hours, making the filler feel firmer or appear asymmetrical This usually resolves within a few hours to 1-2 days.

  • Tenderness: The treated area may feel slightly tender or tight. This should improve within a few days.
  • Bruising: Light bruising may occur depending on the area treated, particularly around delicate areas like the eyes. Bruising should fade within 7–10 days.
  • Other common sensations include tingling, numbness, lumpiness, or a feeling of pressure or fullness in the treated area
  • Gradual Improvement: Polynucleotides work by stimulating collagen production, so results are gradual and will continue to improve over time. Full results are typically seen 2–4 weeks after the treatment.

Keep the Area Clean and Hydrated: Gently cleanse the treated area with lukewarm water and a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliants for 7–10 days post-treatment.
Avoid Touching the Treated Area: Refrain from touching, rubbing, or massaging the area for at least 24 hours to avoid irritation or infection.
Avoid Sun Exposure: Always apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen to the treated area daily, especially if you’ve had treatment around the eyes, as this skin is more delicate. Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks following your treatment to prevent pigmentation changes.
Cold Compress: If you notice swelling or discomfort, you can gently apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes to reduce swelling, especially if the treatment was around the eye area.
No Makeup: Avoid applying makeup for 24–48 hours after the procedure to allow your skin to heal properly. If makeup is necessary, use a clean applicator and opt for mineral makeup to avoid irritation.
Gentle Skincare: You may continue with your regular skincare routine except for active ingredients like retinol, AHAs, or Vitamin C for 5–7 days post-treatment.
Avoid Heat & Strenuous Activity: For 48 hours, avoid heat exposure, such as hot tubs, saunas, and intense exercise, as these can increase swelling and sensitivity.
Sleeping Position: If treatment was performed around the eyes, sleep on your back with your head elevated to minimize swelling and allow for proper healing.
Massage: If advised by your practitioner, gently massage the treated area in the morning and evening using a soft pinching motion to help stimulate lymphatic drainage and improve the absorption of the product. If treated around the eyes, please be especially gentle to avoid any unnecessary pressure on this delicate area.
Pain Relief: If needed, paracetamol can be taken for mild discomfort. Avoid Aspirin or Ibuprofen, as these can increase bruising.
Stay well-hydrated to support collagen production and skin healing.
Do not schedule facials, facial massages, or laser treatments for two weeks after your treatment.
If you experience any persistent swelling, unusual lumps, or prolonged discomfort, please contact us for a follow-up appointment.

When to Expect Results:
Polynucleotides stimulate collagen production and improving skin quality over time, so you may start to notice a visible improvement within 2–4 weeks, with continued improvements seen over the following months. Your treatment will help to restore firmness, hydration, and elasticity, offering a rejuvenated, natural look. Results are gradual and typically develop over several weeks, with optimal results after a course of treatments

If you have any concerns about asymmetry, lumpiness, bruising, or prolonged swelling, we are happy to schedule a follow-up appointment for assessment.

Additional Treatments:
Multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results as part of your treatment plan, these should be booked 4 weeks apart.

Your Doctor will discuss the frequency of treatments with you. We may recommend a series of sessions for the best long-term outcome.

We’re here to help you throughout your treatment plan, so don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

We look forward to seeing your beautiful results!
